اردو صحافت میں چار سال گزر گئے ہیں ..اور مستقبل کے چالیس سال بھی اسی خدمت میں گزارنے کا ارادہ ہے. انگریزی کو بولنے کی حد تک سیکھ لیا ہے .مگر گذشتہ ماہ اردو ادب کو پڑھنے اور سیکھنے کی شدید خواہش پیدا ہوئی .ادیب تو بہت سارے ہیں جنہیں پڑھ کر واقعی مزہ آجاتا ہے .مگر میں نے ڈاکٹر جمیل جالبی کے کام کو پڑھنا شروع کیا تو لگا کہ شاید ایک ماہ تو ان کی کامیابیوں پر عش عش کرنے میں گزر جائے گا .پھر اُن کی تصانیف کو سمجھنے کے لئے بھی خاص اہلیت کا ہونا ضروری ہے۔ جب جب ڈاکٹر صاحب سے متعلق یا انکی لکھی ہوئی کتاب پڑھنے لگوں تو دل افسردہ ہوجاتا ہے،یہ میری زندگی کا پچھتاوا ہے کہ اُن سے ملاقات نہ ہوسکی. ایک سال پہلے وہ ہم میں تھے .اور میں انکی صحبت سے مستفید ہی نہ ہوسکی.آہ! مگر آج اُن کی پہلی برسی پر اُن کے کام کو خراج تحسین پیش کر کے اپنا کچھ حصہ ڈالنے کی کوشش کر رہی ہوں۔. Four years have passed in Urdu journalism and I intend to spend forty years in the same service-I have learned to speak English to an extent but last month there was a strong desire to read and learn Urdu literature-There are a lot of writers who really enjoy reading, but when I started reading Dr. Jamil Jalbi's work I thought maybe a month would be spent rejoicing over his achievements, then understanding his authorship. Must also have special abilities. When I read a book related to a doctor or his book, I feel sad it is my life's regret that he could not be met. A year ago they were in our midst and I could not help them. Ahh! But today on their first anniversary I pay tribute to their work and try to do their bit.
30 جولائی 1929 کو پیدا ہونے والے جمیل جالبی نے اردو ادب کو ایسی شناخت بخشی کہ صدر پاکستان کی طرف سے اِن کو ہلال امتیاز اور ستارہ امتیاز سے نوازا گیا.اردو ادب میں تحقیق سے لیکر روایت ،تنقید سمیت سینکڑوں پہلوؤں پر ڈاکٹر صاحب نے روشنی ڈالی۔ڈاکٹر صاحب کی کتابیں اردو ادب کی لائبریری میں چراغ کی مانند چمکتی نظر اتی ہیں. اردو لغت میں بھی اُن کا کام کسی تعارف کا محتاج نہیں اُن کی کتاب {فرہنگ اصطلاحات اور قومی انگلش اردو لغت} پڑھیں تو اردو لغت میں یقینی طور پر آپکی دلچسپی بڑھنے لگے گی. ڈاکٹر جمیل جالبی نے انکم ٹیکس شعبے میں سرکاری نوکری کی جبکہ کراچی یونیورسٹی کے وائس چانسلر بھی رہے، بعدازاں مقتدرہ قومی زبان کے چئیرمین بھی تعینات ہوئے.باتیں کے نام سے ماہانہ لکھے گئے ان کے کالم اتنے جامع ہیں کہ ہر دور میں بطور حوالہ استعمال کئے جاسکتے ہیں۔نیا دور میگزین بھی ڈاکٹر جمیل نے ہی شروع کیا تھا..اچھا خیر یہ باتیں چھوڑئیے.....انکی تصانیف اور خدمات پر بات کرنے لگیں تو شاید مجھے بھی بلاگز کی ایک سیریز لکھنا پڑے گی .مگر انکی پہلی برسی پر میں ایک گہری سوچ میں مبتلا ہوں کہ نوجوان تو اپنے قیمتی سرمایے سے کس قدر غافل ہیں۔ وہ ہیرے جنہوں نے اپنی تمام عمر قومی زبان کی ترویج کے لئے وقف کر دی ہم میں سے بیشتر انکو پڑھنے کی بھی زحمت نہیں کرتے. The diamonds that have devoted their entire lives to the promotion of the national language. most of us do not even bother to read them.
